PML-N Rejects Possibility of Electoral Alliance with any Political Party
The Interior Minister, Rana Sanaullah, firmly stated that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has no intention of forming an electoral alliance with any political party for the upcoming general elections. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he clarified that no decision has been made regarding such an alliance.
Nevertheless, Sanaullah acknowledged that seat adjustment could be considered with all political parties. This statement comes in light of reports suggesting that the recently formed Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) is interested in forging an electoral alliance with the ruling PML-N to contest the general elections scheduled for October this year.
Jahangir Tareen, the chief of the IPP, departed for the UK on Sunday, where he is expected to meet with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif to discuss the possibility of an electoral alliance between their respective parties.
Last month, the PML-N announced its decision to independently contest the next general elections without forming an alliance. This decision aligns with the constitutional requirement for polls to be conducted once the mandated period of the National Assembly is completed.
The announcement followed a meeting between Nawaz and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in London, where the latter was attending the Coronation ceremony of King Charles III.
During a press conference in Vehari, the co-chairman of the PPP clarified that their party would participate in the upcoming elections under the "arrow" symbol, emphasizing that they were not seeking an alliance with the ruling PDM.
"We are not part of the PDM, but we are partners in the government," stated the PPP stalwart, ahead of the general polls in Punjab, scheduled to be held on April 30.
