Police check out suspicious packages found at party HQs
Packages resembling explosives were found at the party offices of the Left Alliance and Christian Democrats, but they were found to be harmless, according to police.
Helsinki police ordered the evacuation of the Left Alliance party office on Thursday morning after a suspicious package containing what resembed explosives was found on the premises.
Authorities announced around 1pm that they had examined the package and found that it was harmless.
A couple of hours later police announced that similar suspicious package containing what looked like explosives was also reported at the party office of the Christian Democrats on Karjalankatu in the Alppila neighbourhood.
Following a check, police announced that package was also harmless.
Police are investigating the incidents as illegal threat crimes.
The Left Alliance party office is located in Lintulahdenkatu in the city's Sörnäinen district. Police closed traffic on the street while the package was being checked.
Several police, rescue units were called to the scene at around noon, according to a reporter who was at the office. Read More…
