Portuguese Miguel Oliveira Places Third at the German GP
Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira finished third in Friday's timed practice for the MotoGP German Grand Prix, the ninth round of the motorcycle racing World Championship season, ensuring his passage to the second phase of qualifying.
In a highly competitive session, Miguel Oliveira clocked his best lap at 1.19.984 minutes, finishing 0.362 seconds behind the fastest rider, Spaniard Maverick Viñales. Fellow Spaniard Jorge Martín (Ducati) secured second place, just 0.340 seconds behind Viñales.
The timed practice sessions, which determined the 10 fastest riders to qualify directly for Q2, were marked by several accidents:
Fabio DiGiannantonio: Suffered the most serious accident, causing the session to be interrupted to replace the protective barriers after he violently crashed into the air cushions at Turn 1. Despite being taken to the medical center with complaints in his right collarbone and arm, he was eventually deemed fit to race.
Marc Márquez: Fell and experienced chest pains, requiring a visit to the medical center.
Aleix Espargaró: Did not participate in the afternoon session due to pain in his right hand from a crash in the previous round in the Netherlands, leading to his expected absence from this weekend's race.
Other riders who crashed included Pedro Acosta (KTM), Joan Mir (Honda), Augusto Fernandez (GasGas), Takaaki Nakagami (Honda), Enea Bastianini (Ducati), Johann Zarco (Honda), and Remy Gardner (Yamaha), who is replacing the injured Alex Rins this weekend.
Maverick Viñales set a new circuit record, previously held since 2022, while Miguel Oliveira had his best-timed practice session of the season, showcasing his strong performance and competitiveness in the championship.
