PTA finally eliminates spam SMS advertising
Since WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook Messenger have become more popular, SMS is barely ever used for texting anymore. Nowadays, everyone has access to mobile internet, therefore there is little reason to purchase an SMS plan.
Nevertheless, telemarketers, telecoms, ISPs, arbitrary pest control companies, and the list goes on, continue to bombard us with SMS spam on our phones. Nobody enjoys receiving unsolicited texts, and it can take a lot of effort to block each and every one of them.
Fortunately, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has at last given us some positive news.

Telemarketers will only be permitted to send promotional SMS texts to those who opt-in thanks to recently adopted PTA laws. Additionally, every promotional message will include a link to stop receiving SMS advertisements. PTA also makes it clear that sending SMS without permission is against the rules and is, therefore, a crime that has to be reported.
Here is an illustration of how promotional messages will now appear.
