Science minister talks up Thai researchers at expo
Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (HESI) Minister Anek Laothamatas has emphasised the importance of integrating science and research through the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model.
Delivering a speech titled "Country Development Strategy under the BCG model" at the opening of the Thailand Research Expo 2022 yesterday, Mr Anek said science and research are integral to the concept and urged Thai business operators to tap into a pool of local highly qualified researchers.
The expo which is being held until Friday at Centara Grand at Central World and Bangkok Convention Center is showcasing more than 500 research and innovation projects.
He said that the ministry had recently signed an MoU with CP Group on BCG research in four areas.
They include lab-grown meats from animal cells; EV batteries and vehicles; "functional food" to preemptively prevent health problems and associated costs; and smart farms, he said.
He said that the company had previously used researchers from the US, Brazil, Japan and China, however, they had recently begun employing Thai researchers who carried out excellent work at affordable prices.
