Seoul National University's senior, Woo Young-woo, “This is a fantasyâ€... Looking at the rate of admission to universities with disabilities
For the first time, the number of special education students attending school exceeded 100,000. However, only 20% of high school graduates go on to college, and 40% of students who graduate from high school and special schools have not been able to go on to school or find a job.
According to the Ministry of Education's 2022 special education statistics on the 24th, the number of students eligible for special education as of April this year stood at 103,695, an increase of 5541 from last year. This is the first time since the survey started that the number exceeded 100,000. By disability category, intellectual disabilities accounted for the largest number with 53,718, followed by autistic disorder (17,024), developmental delay (11,087), and physical disability (9639).
Seven out of ten students with disabilities attend regular schools. Specifically, 28,233 students, or 27.2%, attending special schools and special education support centers, and 75,462 students in general schools (general and special classes) accounted for 72.8%.

The employment rate of 9,378 graduates, including not only high school but also special schools and classroom majors (technical education courses for special students), is 33.2%. However, 3,704 graduates, or 39.5%, did not go to college or get a job. This means that 4 out of 10 people are uncertain about their career path even after receiving special education at the high school level. Read More…
