Sh3 million up for grabs in women's World Tennis Tour next month
Three million shillings will be up for grabs during the World Tennis Women's Tour slated for next month at Karen Club.
Tennis Kenya (TK) secretary general Wanjiru Mbugua Karani said preparations for the event are at an advanced stage.
Wimbledon Junior tennis doubles champion Angela Okutoyi, Cynthia Cheruto, and Rosehilda Asumwa will represent the country in the two-week event.
The first leg starts on November 14-21 and the second leg is scheduled for November 21-27.
The winner of the tournament will pocket Sh200,000 with the runners-up getting Sh176, 400. Losing semifinalists will go home with Sh88,080 richer.
Mbugua said they expected most of the top tennis players from the world to grace the event.
“This being a two-week tournament, we will have some of the top players coming from Europe, America, parts of Africa and Asia."
The two-week tournament will give Kenyan tennis fans an opportunity to see Okutoyi playing on home soil for the first time this year.
“We have seen Angela's exploits abroad and this gives an opportunity to fans to see her locally while playing her peers," added Mbugua. Read More...
