Sharks beat Bulls at the Currie Cup semifinal
The Sharks secured a thrilling Currie Cup semifinal victory over the Bulls in a match that ended in a dramatic 40-all draw after extra time at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday night.
With the score tied at 33-33 after regulation time, the game went into two 10-minute halves of extra time to determine a winner.
According to Currie Cup rules, if teams are still level after extra time, the team with the most tries wins. The Sharks outscored the Bulls six tries to four, earning them the win.
The Sharks will now head to Johannesburg to face the Lions, who defeated the Cheetahs 43-34 in the other semifinal, in the Currie Cup final at Ellis Park next weekend.
The game saw the Bulls lead 23-19 at halftime after an action-packed first half, but the Sharks battled back throughout the match.
The Bulls extended their lead early in the second half, but the Sharks responded with tries from Ethan Hooker and Andre Esterhuizen, putting them ahead 33-30. Despite being down to 12 men at one point due to multiple cards, the Sharks held firm as Johan Goosen's penalty for the Bulls leveled the score, sending the game into extra time.
In extra time, the Bulls took the lead again with a try from David Kriel, but the Sharks fought back with a try from Bok prop Trevor Nyakane, and Lionel Cronje's conversion brought the scores level again.
The Bulls had one final chance to win the match, but Boeta Chamberlain's long-range penalty attempt fell short, allowing the Sharks to hold on and claim a memorable victory.
