South Eastern University to offer diploma, certificates
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has challenged the South Eastern Kenya University to embrace research to harness science and technology to improve livelihoods of Kenyans.
“I urge you, especially the University’s academic community to remain adventurous in your work and engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects that harness science and technology to improve the livelihoods of the disadvantage majority,” said the CS.
Magoha's sentiments were contained in as speech read on his behalf by Cabinet Administrative Secretary Mumina Gallo Bonaya. It was during the Seku’s eighth graduation ceremony held at the main campus at Kwavonza in Kitui County.
A total of 1341 graduands graduated with Bachelors, Masters and Doctors of Philosophy degrees.
The CS emphasised that since Seku is located in a rural setting it should give special focus particularly to research undertakings that enhance livelihoods among the local communities.
He expressed satisfaction with the several active research collaborations and linkages Seku has had with local and international organisations.
“These should translate into tangible benefit to society, starting with our immediate community,” added Magoha.
The CS further observed that as the country gave due attention to technical skills development, Seku stands a good chance to excel in this area.
“The government, through the African Development Bank, has invested significantly in technical equipment, which the University should put into use for this purpose,” said the CS. Read More...
