Spain's Ruling Party: Madrid, Rabat to Consolidate Diplomatic Ties
Amid recent developments in Morocco-Spain diplomatic ties, the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) has stressed that Spain’s stance in Morocco’s Autonomy Plan is part of Madrid’s efforts to build a 21st-century bilateral relationship.
In a report entitled “The importance of Spain's relations with Morocco,” the PSOE noted that “Spain must look to the future by building relations with Morocco to the level of the 21st century.”
The ruling party commented further on the importance to the southern European country of establishing “strong and stable ties” with its North African neighbor.
The PSOE described Morocco as a “strategic partner” for Spain, highlighting that the two countries’ relations play a critical role in generating greater stability and security in the region.
Referring to the Spanish government’s support for Rabat’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, the PSOE said a “new bilateral stage” has been reached that will “end the crisis and strengthen bilateral ties.”
The ruling party also reflected on Spain’s decades-long ties with Morocco.
“We have strong human, historical, geographical, and economic ties with Morocco. More than 800,000 Moroccans live in Spain and over 17,000 Spanish companies have commercial relations with Morocco,” the PSOE concluded.
Last week, Spain officially endorsed Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the most credible means to resolving the decades-long dispute over Western Sahara. Read More...
