SRF presenter Olivier Borer and his husband become parents
“I’m going to be a father. Every time I say that, it becomes more real and emotional. It’s still surreal for me because such a big heart’s desire is being fulfilled,” says Olivier Borer (40).
In the “Zurich Pride” podcast, the SRF sports presenter makes his soon-to-be happy baby public. For him and his husband, whom he keeps out of the public eye, it should be the end of this year. The child will be carried by a surrogate mother in the USA. In late July 2022, the couple first visited the woman in America. “We couldn’t wait. Therefore, we only had contact with the woman and her family via Whatsapp. We were incredibly nervous.”
Your “belly mommy” gives the fathers confidence
Her “belly mommy” already has two children, but she is a surrogate mother for the first time, Borer continues. She gives expectant fathers confidence. “Pregnancy wasn’t always easy. But she is very pragmatic and calm. That was important to us, especially because of the distance.”
Saying goodbye to the unborn child was also difficult. «Leaving the creature in this belly» was hard, after all it is our child. The distance feels even greater now,” says the sports presenter, who is currently training to become a primary school teacher and has reduced his workload at SRF.
Can we do it financially? Can we do it emotionally?
Once the little one is there, it should grow up with the awareness that in addition to its two fathers it also has a “belly mommy”, the surrogate mother should continue to be present, says Borer. “We want to be open and transparent with our child. If it wants to know where it comes from, then it should be able to do that.”
The conception of the child was a difficult undertaking. Since surrogacy is forbidden in Switzerland, Olivier Borer and his husband sent their sperm to the USA to have a donor egg fertilized there. After two attempts there were only three viable embryos, about ten is normal. The SRF man says about the way: “We questioned ourselves: can we do it financially? Can we do it emotionally? It was definitely a test for us as a couple, but we’re even closer now.” Read More…
