Stella Jean signs a capsule for Desigual, between identity, conscience and commitment: "Fashion is the tool to break down prejudices"
Stella Jean is the designer of the new, colorful Desigual capsule collection : the liason between the designer who defines herself as an "irreversible woman" and the Catalan brand with an international spirit, founded in the Eighties with the aim of enhancing positivity and authenticity, is a project that speaks of identity, conscience and commitment, values common to both protagonists of this collaboration.
The bond between Stella Jean and Desigual
"We have many elements in common with Desigual, including the aptitude for recovery, the desire to tell about cultures and tell them with joy - explains Stella Jean - We managed to work very well together, the group understood how central it was for me. importance of collaborating with women craftsmen, of supporting the women craftsmen of my project "Laboratory of Nations"
The wax prints, protagonists of the collection
The flagship print of this capsule collection is inspired by the wax fabrics , very dear to the stylist of Haitian origins on her mother's side, fused with the passion for the tradition of Made in Italy tailoring that made her a protagonist also in the scouting project Who is on Next? , where she won second prize in 2011."For me, making elements that may appear opposites communicate is very natural: I do nothing but reflect in my work what my roots are, I think this is also one of the best ways to bring others closer to this principle of multiculturalism practically inherent in everything. So I am in itself the fusion between Haiti and Italy and in my collections I started by merging these two nations, I started by merging black and white, opposite cultures, opposite stories. If you like what you see, if what you see you say is beautiful it means that you have automatically absorbed that culture, and not only that, you begin to inhabit that culture, you wear it. So in a certain way, fashion at this juncture is transformed into a tool to break down prejudices, immediately, through beauty ".

The key items of the capsule collection
The prints are the protagonists in every garment of the collection, in particular in those chosen for the campaign: the top garment, for example, is a dress with a neckline tied at the neck, a skirt with flounces and a waist with a bow combined with an XXL hat in a delicate pink, some sandals with fringes in deep red raffia and a woven bag, which combines rope, sackcloth and bamboo. Then there are, in Daniel Jackson 's shots , a playsuit and a skirt matched in a decisive and sensual suit and a look composed of a skirt with multicolored fringes and flounces combined with a shirt dress with madras checks. Stella Jean comments :"Haiti is an extraordinary island and for me it is a great opportunity to start telling and promoting it also through its strong points and its great culture, including enchanting architecture, thanks to the prints made with Desigual".
In the collection there are also t-shirts inspired by Rome , the city where Stella lives and works: “Rome is an obligatory stage in my creativity but also because I carry it inside, and even if I wanted to ignore it, it is stronger than anything. What's more, as we have also seen in the collection, she has the word “amor” in her, but she contains it backwards. Rome is a set of infinite defects and problems, but then 6, 7 in the evening and Rome arrive it covers itself with a golden mantle, with a golden light, transforming itself into the most beautiful city in the world. And immediately forgive her everything. Rome is fantastic. What we have done in this collection is to celebrate it once again and recognize the great part it has in my life. She is a spiteful lover, she does all sorts of things, but you always forgive her everything because she is too beautiful ". There are also prints inspired by two-tone porcelain repaired with the kintsugi technique , others that reproduce elements of colonial architecture and garments whose prints recall the aesthetics of coffee bags.
