Students from Laois travel to Gambia
Tuesday 28 February saw the culmination of a year of hard work, fundraising and countless meetings as 16 students and four staff members from Portlaoise College departed for Banjul as part of the school’s Gambia Partnership Project.
Over the past year the students Jannet Cierocka, Erin Harrison, Alesha Dennehy, Katelyn Thompson, Katelyn Lawlor, Carla Hiluta, Amber Kelly, Katie Carlin, Rebekah Momo, Roisin Hogan, Natasha Hynes, Mikayela Hyland, Oliver Brown-Quail, Fionn McEvoy Mullally, Aidan Donaghy and Brandon Doheny fundraised a substantial amount of funds for the trip from bake sales, a Christmas market and auction, student -v- teacher matches, a sponsored walk and other individual events.
They were also supported in their efforts by the generosity of the community which allowed them to provide life-saving medicines, cleaning products and saline solutions to the local medical centre and maternity hospital in Brikama. Read More..
