Support for Croatian Government and Major Political Parties Wanes

A recent survey conducted by the Ipsos agency between July 1 and 21, encompassing 984 adult citizens from across Croatia, reveals a significant decline in the popularity of the country's leading political parties and government. The survey highlights growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration and political landscape.

Declining Party Popularity

The survey indicates a notable decrease in support for the five most influential parties:

HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union): Despite retaining the top spot, HDZ's popularity dropped by 1.3 percentage points, now holding the support of 30.2% of voters.

SDP (Social Democratic Party): The second-strongest party saw an even greater decline, losing 1.5 percentage points and falling to 19% support.

Mozemo: The third-ranked party experienced a 0.6 percentage point drop, now standing at 8.5%.

DP (Homeland Movement): This party recorded the smallest decline among the leading parties, losing 0.3 percentage points and now having 7.5% support.

The fifth-ranked party saw a 0.7 percentage point decrease, with support now at 7%.

All other parties individually did not exceed 2% support. Notably, the percentage of undecided voters continues to grow, now amounting to 14.8%.

Public Opinion on Politicians

In terms of individual politicians:

President Zoran Milanović: He remains the most positively viewed politician, with 43% of respondents reacting favorably.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Božo Petrov (President of Most): Both share the second spot with 38% positive reactions.

Dalija Orešković (Member of Parliament): She moved up to fourth place with 34% positive reactions.

Gordan Jandroković (Parliament Speaker) and Tomislav Tomašević (Zagreb Mayor): Both share the fifth position with 32% support.

Interestingly, Tomislav Tomašević, who was second in positive reactions last month, has seen a decline in his standing.

On the negative side:

Milorad Pupovac (head of SDSS): He remains the most negatively viewed politician with 76% negative reactions.

Hrvoje Zekanović and Peđa Grbin: Both tied for second place with 56% negative reactions.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković: He holds the fourth position with 55% negative reactions.

Tomislav Tomašević and Ivan Penava: Both are at 54% negative reactions.

Government Approval Ratings

The survey indicates that the work of the government is supported by only 34% of respondents, while 61% do not support it. This support has increased slightly compared to June, while the share of those who do not support remained the same. Notably, two-thirds of the voters of the Homeland Movement do not support the government's work.

Despite this dissatisfaction, the belief that the government will complete its mandate has grown, now standing at 76%. Meanwhile, 18% of respondents do not believe that the government will see the end of its four-year mandate.

As for the current president's performance, 34% of respondents approve of his work, while 59% disapprove, and 7% have no opinion.

This survey underscores the growing discontent among Croatian citizens with their political leaders and the current administration, reflecting a challenging political climate ahead.
