Taro Balls Recipe

Taro balls are a popular dessert in many Asian cultures. Here's a simple recipe to make delicious taro balls at home:

Ingredients:

2 large taro roots, peeled and diced

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup water

Food coloring (optional)

Coconut milk or water for soaking

Instructions:

- Cook the taro: Steam the diced taro roots until they're soft and easily mashed. Let them cool down.

- Mash the taro: Mash the cooked taro roots in a blender or with a fork until they're smooth.

- Mix with sugar and cornstarch: In a large bowl, combine the mashed taro, sugar, and cornstarch. Mix well until a dough forms.

- Add coloring (optional): If you want to add some color to your taro balls, add a few drops of food coloring to the dough and mix well.

- Knead the dough: Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and pliable.

- Shape into balls: Divide the dough into small portions and shape each portion into a ball. You should end up with around 10-12 balls.

- Soak in coconut milk or water: Soak the taro balls in coconut milk or water for at least 30 minutes to give them a soft and chewy texture.

- Serve: Serve the taro balls warm or at room temperature. You can also add them to desserts like shaved ice or sweet soups.

Tips:

- Make sure to handle the taro dough gently to avoid breaking the starches and making the balls too dense.

- If you find the dough too sticky, add a little more cornstarch. If it's too dry, add a little more water.

- Experiment with different flavors like coconut flakes or sesame seeds to give your taro balls a unique twist.
