The operator chaired by José María Álvarez - Pallete has expertly navigated the troubled waters of inflation and the military conflict in Ukraine during the first nine months of the year. This is, at least, what is deduced from the results corresponding to the third quarter that Telefónica has sent this Friday to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). Specifically, teleco revenues have increased by 11.2% compared to the same period in 2021, reaching 10,343 million euros. This has allowed it to achieve a net profit of 1,486 million in the first nine months of the year. The teleco has also confirmed the dividend of 0.30 euros per share, which its shareholders will receive in two installments of 0.15 euros: in December this year and in June 2023. This second payment will be submitted to the General Shareholders' Meeting.
The company's main markets have contributed to the growth in revenues during the third quarter, especially Brazil , where billing has shot up 29% in parallel with the integration of the mobile assets of the country's fourth-largest operator, Oi. It is followed by Hispam , the division that brings together subsidiaries from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Venezuela, whose revenues have grown by 18.2%. For its part, in Germany , Telefónica's turnover has increased by 6%. Compared to Spain, the teleco has entered 0.2% more thanks to initiatives such as the personalized offer launched in the second quarter of the year called 'miMovistar'.
However, the operating result before amortization (OIBDA) has registered a decrease of 3,249 million euros in the third quarter. This is 13% less than at the same time in 2021, which has been attributed to the fact that a year ago the company received some 700 million euros in capital gains. This has its origin in several operations closed last year such as the creation of FiBrasil (the fiber optic joint venture created together with the local investment group CDPQ), the sale of 40% of InfraCo (Chile) to the KKR fund and the sale of various assets such as the towers of Telefonica Deutschlandto American Tower former subsidiaries such as Telefónica Costa Rica (sold to Liberty Latin America). Without considering all of the above, OIBDA has registered an increase of 8.5% to 3,293 million euros. Read More…
