Senegalese series are experiencing a strong rise. They are widely followed and sometimes even beyond the national territory. The views on YouTube, helping, the sector has become a real business. They are even on the way to supplanting Hindu telenovelas and soap operas.
The time when South American telenovelas and other Hindu soap operas burst onto small Senegalese screens by inviting themselves into our living rooms seems to be over. In recent years, local cinema has been booming with products that are consumed even outside the national territory.
After the series “Un Café Avec”, the first feature film broadcast by a national private television (TFM), the birth of the production house Marodi Tv has placed Senegal among the countries with major production after Nigeria and Ghana. Mistress of a Married Man (2STV) written by journalist Kalista Sy and produced by this production house, brought Senegalese cinema to the pinnacle. Translated into French even broadcast on A+, mistress of a married man, conquered the African public even if its third season was not at the top.
Also on behalf of Marodi, series such as Karma, Impact, Gold by Ninki Nanka and Virginie, have had a large audience. There is also Emprise en encore Golden. However, the reproach made to Marodi is that his series are often not developed to the end. Marodi is not the only production structure that has stood out. There is also Evenprod whose achievements are eye-catching. After the Idols series which left its mark after the broadcast of its seasons 1 and 2, Evenprod made its debut well. Its transmission on Wido dampened its popularity before its final seasons were uploaded to YouTube.
Mores, the women's brigade arrived later, less popular but, was a continued achievement. With Infidèles, Evenprod succeeded in highlighting the presence of sexuality in society. Despite criticism and reluctance, Infidèles continues to be broadcast. The activity of this production house is also marked by series such as Ndiabaar, Vantours and very recently Munal.
