The Centre Pasteur du Cameroun inaugurates a new research lab
The Centre Pasteur du Cameroun (CPC) has unveiled a new research division aimed at advancing its operations. As per the information at hand, this newly established laboratory, resulting from a collaboration between Cameroon and France, will primarily focus on the surveillance of health risks associated with water, food, and the environment.
The entire project encompassed a total expenditure of CFA735 million, which covered both the construction phase and the procurement of equipment. "By fortifying our center's capabilities, this new division will aid us in ensuring that agricultural enterprises, hotels and restaurants, construction and public works companies, small businesses, and even individuals are able to provide their beneficiaries or customers with products that are safe for consumption," expressed Dr. Mirdad Kazanji, the Managing Director of the CPC.
Cameroonian health authorities perceive this laboratory for water, food, and environmental analysis as a direct response to the prevailing challenges within the country, particularly in light of the cholera epidemic that has claimed the lives of more than 400 individuals since October 2021. "It signifies a significant stride forward in the promotion of public health in our nation... The completion of this project equips both the general public and businesses with a tool that adheres to international standards, ensuring the monitoring of food quality available for consumption," elaborated Pr. Louis Richard Njock, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsanté).
It is worth noting that this laboratory possesses international accreditation, empowering manufacturers to export products that comply with international sanitary and phytosanitary regulations.
