Theater: Come back, Yuyachkani! Cast will present four of its emblematic works
"Goodbye Ayacucho," "Do Not Touch Me That Waltz," "Confessions," and "With-certain Oblivion" form part of the "Theater and Memory" series, marking the historic theater ensemble's contemplation after two decades since delivering the Final Report of the CVR.
Renowned national theater group Yuyachkani, meaning "I am thinking, I am remembering" in Quechua, makes a comeback on stage. From May 19 to June 11, the ensemble will present their Theater and Memory series, featuring four iconic works from their Repertoire.
In this manner, Yuyachkani, with over 51 years of experience, embarks on a series of activities aiming to reflect upon our recent historical memory, leading up to the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report (CVR) delivery. All performances are suitable for individuals aged 14 and above.

1. "Confessions"
Taking place on May 19th, 20th, and 21st at 8:00 pm, "Confessions" showcases a solo stage performance by actress Ana Correa. Directed by Miguel Rubio Zapata, recipient of the National Culture Award, this play delves into Correa's creative process as she engages in a constant dialogue with her characters from Yuyachkani's productions, particularly those that emerged during the era of political violence.
"Confessions" establishes a connection with an actress who views theater as a way of life, with a duration of 75 minutes.
2. "Do Not Play That Waltz for Me"
Dates: May 26th, 27th, and 28th at 8:00 pm
This piece is a collaborative creation by actors Rebeca Ralli and Julián Vargas, along with director Miguel Rubio.
"Two deceased singers, mysteriously returning to the bar where they once performed, become an apparition to the patrons."
This 60-minute work portrays nighttime Lima in the 1980s. It combines a fragmented dramaturgy, blending Creole music and rock, featuring texts from Quevedo, León Felipe, Shakespeare, García Lorca, as well as popular characters from downtown Lima bars.
3. "Goodbye Ayacucho"
Dates: June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at 8:00 pm
"Goodbye Ayacucho" is an adaptation of Julio Ortega's eponymous novel published in the mid-1980s. It encapsulates a significant period when television images and newspaper headlines depicted the internal armed conflict in Ayacucho.
Yuyachkani created this theatrical rendition in 1990, and since its premiere, the protagonist "Alfonso Cánepa" has continuously shared his story, transforming the work into a prominent artistic reference both within and beyond Peru. It serves as a means to raise awareness about that era in Peru's history, focused on memory and human rights.

4. "With-certain Oblivion"
Dates: June 9th, 10th, and 11th at 8:00 pm
A collective creation by Yuyachkani, featuring Ana Correa, Augusto Casafranca, Débora Correa, Julián Vargas, Rebeca Ralli, and Teresa Ralli. The dramaturgy and direction are helmed by Miguel Rubio Zapata.
This work serves as an intersection between performing arts and music. It incorporates poems, songs, and musical compositions in the format of a theatrical concert, where actors recite, evoke, play, sing, and interpret themes and texts from authors like Edward Gordon Graig, Bertolt Brecht, Jorge Manrique, Julio Ortega, Oscar Colchado Lucio, Peter Elmore, and Miguel Rubio Zapata.
Through the harmonious blend of music and words, this production embarks on a poignant journey exploring universal themes such as love, death, freedom, memory, national identity, loss, reconciliation, the resilience of the human spirit, and hope.
