Three tips for applicants-2022: How to realistically assess your chances for a budget at a university?
Summer is a hot and exciting time for thousands of applicants and their parents: exams, choosing a dream university, submitting documents, worries, whether you will pass on the budget or not... university
1. We study the passing scores of past years. It is enough to look closely at the scores of the last three or four years. What is a passing score? The minimum amount of points with which a person was taken to a university. How to find them? On the websites of many universities, such as the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow State University, the passing scores of past years are collected on the page of the admission committee. On the website of the central admission committee of Moscow State University , for example, there are passing scores since 2011. The physics and technology website has data from 2009. On the MEPhI website since 2015.
If there is no such section on the website of the university, you can find on the Internet the lists of students enrolled in 2021, 2020 or 2019 and see what the minimum score was for the last applicant.
So is the passing score on the budget in universities still growing or decreasing? There is no single answer. Judge for yourself: in physics and technology in 2019, the passing score on computer security was 284, and in 2021 - 264. In Moscow State University in 2019, at the Mechanics and Mathematics (mathematics), the passing score was 339, and in 2021 - 323.
Now let's look at, say, "physics" at MEPhI. 2019 - 274, 2021 - 265. And what about the humanities? "History", budget, RSUH: 2019 - 256, 2020 - 260, 2021 - 262. It is quite possible that it will grow a little this year.
2. Pay attention to the average score of applicants in previous years. For applicants and their parents, this is also important information for analysis and forecasting.
