Tiger Woods named as US Ryder Cup wildcard alongside Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau

Tiger Woods called his return to the Ryder Cup team “beyond special” after he was named as a wildcard along with Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau.
The former world No.1 has not played against Europe since 2012 – and started the year ranked world No.656 after his fourth back surgery last year.
Woods, now 42, said: “I haven't been part of the team playing wise for six years – I served as a vice-captain a couple of years ago and that was incredible to be part of the team and be part of these young guys.
"At the beginning of the year one of my goals was to make this team. It is incredible. To have the honour to play again is beyond special.”
Speaking in Philadelphia, captain Jim Furyk added: “We are all excited to see him healthy again and see his game playing well again and it is a feather in our cap to have him on our side.”
Mickelson, 48, will make his record 12th Ryder Cup appearance but he has never won on European soil.
DeChambeau, 24, will make his USA debut after winning the first two events in the FedEx playoffs and climbing up to world No.7.David Duval, Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar were named as vice-captains to replace Woods.
