Top Filmmaker, Artist Gets Recognition
Leonard Chibhamu, a prominent Zimbabwean filmmaker and artist, recently received recognition for his impactful community work at the inaugural List Awards, hosted by Identities Media. Chibhamu, known for his dedication to community empowerment through the arts, was honored for his contributions, which have positively influenced many in his community and beyond.
The List Awards, founded by Advocate Nyaradzo Mashayamombe, celebrate individuals who have made significant social, business, humanitarian, and entertainment impacts, fostering transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. Chibhamu expressed gratitude for the award, highlighting how it inspires him to continue working closely with the communities that shaped him.
Chibhamu’s initiatives, such as the Manyene Chivhu Arts Association, have provided artistic platforms to over a thousand people from his local community, many of whom are new to acting. His popular drama series Village Secrets, airing on ZBC TV since 2017 and on JIT TV in South Africa, showcases local talent while addressing social issues relevant to Zimbabwean society. Alongside his work in film, Chibhamu has also ventured into music, releasing two gospel albums.
This award has energized Chibhamu’s commitment to fostering talent and addressing societal challenges through the arts, serving as a powerful example of how creative, community-driven efforts can create lasting, positive change.
