Trailer Unveiled for "Heavier Trip", Sequel to Finnish Heavy Metal Comedy Film
The first trailer for "Heavier Trip", the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 cult hit "Heavy Trip", has finally dropped. The Finnish heavy metal comedy is back, and it's bigger, louder, and more metal than ever!
Picking up where the first film left off, "Heavier Trip" follows the misadventures of Impaled Rektum, an underground extreme metal band from Finland. This time around, they've landed a gig at the holy grail of metal festivals: Germany's Wacken Open Air. But to get there, they'll have to embark on a crazy road trip across Northern Europe, navigating seedy industry types, rival bands, and even a surprise appearance by BABYMETAL!
According to Variety, the sequel takes place a few years after the original film and finds Impaled Rektum in prison. When the guitarist's father falls ill, the band hatches a plan to break out of jail and make their way to Wacken Open Air. Expect plenty of laughs, headbanging, and metal mayhem along the way!
Co-directors Juuso Laatio and Jukka Vidgren shared their excitement about the sequel, saying, "If there's one thing the world needs, it's feel-good movies about dudes who play symphonic post-apocalyptic reindeer-grinding Christ-abusing extreme war pagan Fennoscandic metal. We're so excited to bring Heavier Trip to audiences in North America and make lots of noise with this sequel's release!"
The film features a score by Swedish occult rock band Year of the Goat, while Finnish death metal vet Mika Lammassaari (Mors Subita, ex-Eternal Tears of Sorrow) wrote the music for Impaled Rektum. Laatio gushed about working with Year of the Goat, saying, "This has been my 10-year plan, to collaborate with them somehow... I've been a big, big fan of them for a long time, and this is a personal project in many ways for me."
"Heavier Trip" is set to hit theaters this fall, and we can't wait to experience the metal mayhem for ourselves. With its predecessor scoring a 94% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, expectations are high for this sequel. Will it live up to the hype? Only time (and a lot of headbanging) will tell!
