Transylvanian Hungarian Contemporary Culture Awards Presented
The Hungarian Theater in Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár) was the venue for the presentation of the Transylvanian Hungarian Contemporary Culture Awards on Friday evening. The recipients of the awards were András Visky, a renowned writer, playwright, and dramaturge, Gyárfás Oláh, a skilled sculptor and fashion designer, and Éva Imre, a talented actor.
The Hungarian Democratic Alliance of Romania (RMDSZ) organized the Cluj-Napoca Book Week, during which the awards in the fields of literature, fine arts, and performing arts were bestowed for the 11th consecutive year. Csilla Hegedüs, the Executive Vice-President of RMDSZ, emphasized in her speech that constant renewal is a fundamental element and ongoing challenge of being Transylvanian.
Living in a country characterized by constant uncertainty, she highlighted the necessity for the community to remain flexible. Hegedüs stressed the importance of contemporary artists in enriching the community with new values, as they have the ability to transcend emotional and intellectual barriers, challenge social taboos, and broaden our horizons. The Executive Vice-President of RMDSZ expressed gratitude and admiration for their courage in creating impactful works.
During the ceremony, Zsuzsa Tötszegi, an actor, read Dóra Marcutiu-Rácz's tribute to András Visky's literary contributions. Marcutiu-Rácz described Visky's autobiographical novel, "Resettlement," published the previous year, as an exceptional Transylvanian novel that has captivated a wide readership in a remarkably short period of time. The author fearlessly sheds light on the darkest chapters of Transylvanian history.
Gyárfás Oláh, a sculptor and fashion designer, was commended by Tekla Szabó, who praised his attention to detail and form, both in fashion design and sculpture. Despite his international acclaim, Oláh remains deeply connected to his hometown of Újtusnád, expressing equal dedication to various artistic pursuits.
Éva Imre, based in Cluj-Napoca, was celebrated by Katalin Ágnes Bartha for her vibrant personality and captivating performances. Bartha characterized Imre as effortlessly captivating, contemporary, and personal, possessing an ethereal allure combined with a powerful presence.
To conclude the event, the theater artist Zsolt Bogdán, accompanied by the Kaláka ensemble, delivered a mesmerizing performance of Kányadi.
