Tropical Storm "Chris" Makes Landfall in Lechuguillas, Veracruz
At 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, tropical storm "Chris" made landfall near the town of Lechuguillas in the municipality of Vega de Alatorre, Veracruz, according to the National Water Commission (Conagua). The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) reported that the storm brought winds of 65 km/h, gusts of 85 km/h, and was moving westward at a speed of 20 km/h.
Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors, seek safe locations, and keep a flashlight and radio handy until it is safe to go outside. The storm's impact is expected to bring heavy precipitation and strong winds to southeastern and central states.
Significant rainfall is anticipated across multiple regions:
- Extraordinary rainfall (over 250 mm): Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, and Veracruz
- Torrential rainfall (150 to 250 mm): Oaxaca and Tamaulipas
- Intense rainfall (75 to 150 mm): Campeche, Chiapas, Nuevo León, and Tabasco
- Very strong rainfall (50 to 75 mm): Central states and the Yucatán Peninsula
Additionally, strong winds of 70 to 90 km/h and high waves of 2 to 4 meters are expected along the coasts of Tabasco, Tamaulipas, and Yucatán. These conditions will be accompanied by electric shocks, hail, landslides, and potential flooding due to rising river and stream levels.
Residents in affected areas are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to safety instructions from local authorities to mitigate the risks associated with the storm.
