About the Matica Srpska Gallery in Novi Sad, one of our most important cultural institutions and one of those that cannot be overlooked in any historical overview of our art scene, a monograph was recently published by its manager Dr. Tijana Palkovljević Bugarski, which shows it in its rich attire. The 175th year of the Gallery of Matica Srpska" will speak to us, in addition to the author, Danilo Vuksanović, MA, prof. Dr. Nikola Krstović, prof. Dr. Branko Bešlin and Dr. Branka Kulić. It will be an opportunity to evoke the establishment of this institution in 1847 in Pest under the aegis of Matica Srpska, then the formation of the collection of the Museum of Matica Srpska, the most significant of which was the art collection of today's Gallery of Matica Srpska, then the move from Pest to Novi Sad in 1864 and the opening of the Museum of Matica Srpska to the public in 1933.
They are also unavoidable in 1947, when the art collection of Matica Srpska received the status of a special collection under the name Gallery of Matica Srpska, and in 1958 when it moved to the present building in the center of Novi Sad. Today, it stores nearly 10,000 objects created from the end of the 16th century until today.
