Venue plan confirmed for Chile's PanAmerian games

Organisers of next year’s Pan American Games and Parapan American Games have confirmed the venue plan for the multi-sport events, which will take place in Santiago and incorporate other locations around Chile.
A total of 19 Chilean districts will host competitions during the Games, with the Valparaiso, O’Higgins and Biobío regions all included on the venue plan.
The new Parque Estadio Nacional (pictured) in Santiago will serve as the main hub for the Games and will feature 12 venues that will host 31 disciplines, including swimming, athletics, hockey and tennis.
Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos will comprise three venues and will host baseball and softball, volleyball and beach volleyball, and sport climbing. It will also house the athletes’ villages for the two events.
The three-venue Parque Peñalolén will host track cycling, artistic skating, para cycling, BMX racing, archery and para archery. The wider Santiago region will also host events such as the marathon, modern pentathlon, badminton, weightlifting and rugby sevens.
In the Valparaiso region, eight venues will be used to host events such as slalom canoe, equestrian, women’s football, handball and sailing. Surfing events will take place in Pichilemu, O’Higgins, while sprint canoe and rowing competitions will be held in San Pedro de la Paz in Biobío.
Neven Ilic, president of the Panam Sports governing body, said: “All venues have the approval of Panam Sports and the Pan American confederations, which is part of the regulations that we have to follow.
“The infrastructure that is being proposed, by the organising committee and the Government of Chile, is first-class. We are going to feel tremendously proud of Chileans and it is going to allow us to have a large-scale Pan American Games of the level that they deserve.” Read More...
