For the third consecutive year, the Austrian capital of Vienna has been declared the best city to live in, according to the annual Global Liveability Index compiled by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). This prestigious ranking, released last week, underscores Vienna’s enduring appeal as the epitome of a livable city.
Top Three Cities
Following Vienna on the list are:
- Copenhagen, Denmark - Securing the second spot.
- Zurich, Switzerland - Taking the third place.
Another Swiss city, Geneva, also made it into the top ten, landing in the sixth position.
Vienna's Remarkable Achievement
Vienna’s consistent top ranking is a testament to its high quality of life. The city's mayor, Michael Ludwig, expressed pride in this achievement, attributing it to the hard-working Viennese population. “We are proud that our achievements have been internationally recognized and honored once again. The Global Liveability Index evaluates 173 cities worldwide across five key categories:

- Culture and Environment
- Education
- Infrastructure
This year’s survey observed a general rise in average scores, primarily due to improvements in healthcare and education in developing countries. However, these gains were somewhat offset by declines in scores for several top-tier cities.
