Vietnamese Swimmer and Runner Receive Wild Cards for Paris 2024 Olympics
Vietnamese swimmer Vo Thi My Tien and runner Tran Thi Nhi Yen have been confirmed as wild card entries for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, bringing the total number of Vietnamese qualifiers for the Games to 16.
The Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF) announced on Thursday that it had received confirmation from World Athletics regarding Yen's universality place, or 'wild card.' Yen is currently undergoing intensive training for the women’s 100-meter event with her coach, Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong. She will depart for France and participate in the competition later this month.
Earlier, on Tuesday, World Aquatics confirmed that swimmer Vo Thi My Tien had been granted a wild card to compete in the Paris Olympics. Tien will participate in the women’s 200-meter individual medley, a category in which she has shown strong performances in international championships since 2023. She is currently training domestically and maintaining a stable performance level. Tien will also compete in the 2024 National Youth Swimming Championship in Da Nang City, central Vietnam, until July 10 to ensure optimal preparation before heading to France.
Tien will join Nguyen Huy Hoang, who secured his spot at last year’s Asian Games in China, as Vietnam’s second swimmer at the Paris Olympics.
With these new additions, 16 Vietnamese athletes have now qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.
