Dyeing your hair can be fun, but if your hair's health is not optimal, the excitement might fade quickly. Care for coloured hair can be laborious, but it will be worthwhile when you have healthy hair with vibrant colours that linger. Sanchi Sehgal, shares a few tips to maintain the health of your dyed hair.

The appropriate shampoo can prolong the life of hair colour. Shampoos containing abrasive detergents such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) remove the cuticle layer and hair colour from the hair (SLES). Select a shampoo without sulphates that is made specifically for cleaning coloured hair.

 
Avoid frequent hair washings. The detergents or surfactants used in shampoos remove debris and sebum from the hair's surface. It will fade the colour of your hair. Therefore, wash no more than two or three times every week.

Wash your hair simply with cold or lukewarm water, concentrating on the roots and scalp. Your hair's coloured colour will be preserved and the cuticle will be sealed. When you wash your hair in hot water, the colour usually fades more quickly.

Always condition your coloured hair with a colour-protecting conditioner after shampooing. Your hair will appear shinier and more uniformly coloured if you condition it.
