What is Netflix’s Indonesian teen film Dear David about?
It’s the season of love, meaning that Netflix is releasing a handful of new romantic shows and movies for viewers to enjoy this Valentine’s Day. Among the latest releases are the Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon film Your Place or Mine, the dating competition series Perfect Match, and the Indonesian coming-of-age drama Dear David.
Directed by Lucky Kuswandi, Dear David seems like it will appeal to fans of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The story centers on a teenage girl named Laras who pens a secret blog where she writes about her fantasies surrounding a boy named David. One day her blog gets leaked to the school, and everyone is on a hunt to find out who wrote it as Laras grapples with her real personality and her secret fantasy self.
If you recall, To All the Boys had a similar plot where Lana Condor’s character Lara-Jean writes romantic letters to boys she’s previously had feelings for, and then her sister mails them to their recipients.
