Where can you go rafting in Romania? Rafting is an outdoor recreational activity that uses an inflatable raft to navigate a river. This is usually done on varying degrees of rough water, for a real adventure.
About rafting
Like most outdoor sports, rafting in general has become safer over the years and is arguably the safest of all water sports.
Due to this fact it can be used as a family program, the so-called family rafting. The most important feature of a rafting trip is that the participants have to synchronize their movements, which is why it is a beloved team building activity. Rafting is the most recommended paddling sport to start paddling in river waters as it is the safest.
Shelves come in a few different shapes. The most common symmetrical rafts that fit 6-12 people and the so-called trekking boats (in-line rafts) that can fit 2-3 people. In whitewater rafting there is one guide in each boat, in whitewater rafting there is an experienced guide in every fifth boat, but the minimum number of guides per trip is 2. Usually one guide is with the kayak. The best time to go rafting is when the snow melts (April-June). This time of year is between April and May.

Rafting on Jiu
Jiu is the perfect place for rafting all year round, being one of the most interesting rafting rivers in Romania.
How to get there: By car on the E79 from PetroÈ™ani or Târgu Jiu.
Rafting routes:
Route 1: Canyon section – starting from above Lainici, length: 13 km, 2-3 hours
Route 2: Lower part – starting below Lainici, length: 9 km, 2-3 hours
Difficulty level: 1.5 km – easy-medium
The Jiu is one of the largest south-flowing rivers in the Southern Carpathians. Two rivers, the eastern Jiul, which comes from the Retezat Mountains, and the western Jiul, which comes from the Parâng and Godeanu Mountains, form the Jiul, just before making its way into the mountains, in a deep, narrow and rocky canyon, offering beautiful views for tourists.
