World recognises experience of Mozambique

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said on Saturday that the world recognizes the experience of Mozambique in dealing with armed conflicts, through negotiations and the construction and consolidation of peace.
He was speaking to reporters in Maputo after returning from the African Union heads of state summit in Addis Ababa, where the main theme under discussion was “Accelerating Free Trade in Africa”.
“We presented our experience in handling armed conflicts, and with the process of building and consolidating peace”, said Nyusi. “The people present at the meeting follow the reality of Mozambique, but they needed to hear from us about what is happening in the country”.
He claimed that the experience of Mozambique has been taken as a reference point “which should be capitalised upon, but which should above all be replicated”.
“We should be people who value our own experience”, Nyusi stressed. “It is recognized, and now it depends on us to sell the national product. Countries recognize that we are doing well in peace negotiations and handling armed conflicts”.
Nyusi was obliged to cut short his visit to Addis Ababa, in order to return to Mozambique and follow in person the storms and floods that have scourged parts of the country.
In his place, the Mozambican delegation is led by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno.
Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, Moreno told journalists that Mozambique is stepping up the pace to join the Continental Free Trade Area, as from 2024.
“In today’s world, it is not worth thinking that we can go it alone”, said Moreno. “The African Free Trade Area is one of the largest in the world, representing about 1.3 billion consumers. We cannot miss this chance”.
For Moreno, membership of the Free Trade Area would be a great advantage for Mozambique “particularly because of the possibility of putting our agricultural products on the African market, without paying any duties, or any extra costs or fees”. Read More…
