WWE superstar Samoa Joe is a major doubt for the Royal Rumble after injuring his right foot.
The 38-year-old has also withdrawn from WWE's forthcoming Mixed Match Challenge tournament, when he was set to partner Bayley.
The company said Joe felt a "pop" at the bottom of his right foot during a match with Rhyno on Monday Night Raw this week.
WWE senior ringside physician Dr Chris Amann said: "During his match, [Samoa Joe] felt a pop at the bottom of his [right] foot.
“We took a look and believe he has a plantar fascia rupture, which is a thick tissue rupture under the foot.
"We will get an MRI to confirm. Treatment includes a period of immobilisation in a boot with crutches and platelet rich plasma injections.”
The former NXT Champion is using crutches to move around and could miss up to 12 weeks of action if the injured is confirmed.
He looks likely to miss the Raw 25th anniversary show on January 22 and Royal Rumble event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28.
The Samoan Submission Machine had announced his intention to win the Royal Rumble match and go on to the main event of WrestleMania 34.
In an intriguing promo, he pinpointed 16-time world champion John Cena as a man he would be hoping to eliminate from the contest.
That led to speculation WWE could be sowing the seeds for a clash between the pair at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Joe, from Orange County, California, spent two months on the sidelines last year after suffering a knee injury at a house show in August.
As a result of Joe’s injury, Elias will take his place as Bayley’s partner in the MMC contest, airing on Facebook Watch on January 16.
Raw general manager Kurt Angle revealed the news and said Elias, who came second in an online poll, would be his substitute.
