X suspended in Brazil after an order from a Supreme Court judge
A Brazilian Supreme Court judge has ordered the immediate suspension of X, Elon Musk's social media platform, in Brazil due to the company's failure to comply with a directive to appoint a new legal representative.
The judge, Alexandre de Moraes, who has been leading efforts against disinformation in the country, issued the order following Musk's closure of X's business operations in Brazil last month, claiming that Moraes had threatened the company's previous legal representative with arrest.
The ruling mandates that the National Telecommunications Agency and other tech companies, including Google and Apple, implement measures to block access to X within 24 hours.
This decision comes amidst ongoing tensions between Musk and Moraes, particularly after the judge ordered the suspension of accounts belonging to supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who challenged the legitimacy of the 2022 election results.
In response, Musk criticized Moraes on social media, calling him an "evil dictator" and accusing him of undermining democracy in Brazil. Additionally, Musk's satellite internet service, Starlink, has also been affected by a financial freeze order from Moraes, which the company is contesting legally .
