Zambian fintech Lupiya partners with Network International to launch debit card programme
Zambian fintech company Lupiya has partnered with UAE-based paytech firm Network International to launch a new debit card programme. Lupiya, known for offering low-interest microloans, is leveraging Network International’s Payments-as-a-Service (PaaS) and processing solutions to introduce this debit card as part of its effort to diversify its services and promote digital payments.
Lupiya, which has been operating since 2016, uses machine learning and alternative data to provide financial services to Zambia's unbanked and financially excluded population. The new partnership aims to enhance the company’s offerings by covering the full lifecycle of card payments, from issuance to dispute resolution, in both digital and physical payment channels.
Muchu Kaingu, Lupiya’s co-founder and CTO, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that the introduction of an e-commerce enabled debit card with advanced security features like 3D Secure and tokenization will enable individuals and businesses to better participate in the digital economy.
This collaboration follows other partnerships Network International has formed in Africa, such as with Diamond Trust Bank in Kenya to handle debit, credit, and prepaid card services.
