Zimbabwe Actress Kyo Ra, aka Vanesu Samunyai Plays Rose Walker In Acting Debut Role For Upcoming Netflix Series 'The Sandman'
Seoul-based Zimbabwean actress Vanesu Danai Palesa Shoniwa-Samunyai, who is sometimes known by her Korean name, Kyo Ra is stepping into some serious shoes for her acting debut role for Netflix’s upcoming The Sandman series.
The highly-anticipated series based on the DC comic book by Neil Gaiman will premier on Netflix on 5 August 2022.
Born 23 April 2001 in Warwickshire, England to Zimbabwean parents, Vanesu Danai Palesa Shoniwa-Samunyai plays the recurring role of Rose Walker – a young woman on a desperate search for her missing brother, who finds a family she didn't know that she had, and a connection to Dream that neither of them can escape.
"We needed someone young who could make you care as she ventures into some very dangerous places. Boyd Holbrook's Corinthian is waiting for her, after all. Kyo Ra achieves that as Rose." says Neil Gaiman Gaiman in a Netflix cast announcement.
"This is a great series to have as my first serious role. Nerve-wracking in the beginning, but then I eased into it. The script was something that made it really easy to play even when I was auditioning 'cause it was laid it out so well." says Vanesu Samunyai when asked about the role during a panel discussion to reveal details about the upcoming Netflix adaptation.
As in the original comic run, the new series tells the story of Dream (Tom Sturridge), also known as Morpheus, Oneiros, the titular Sandman, etc., who wakes from a captive slumber of 105 years and sets out to restore the kingdom of the Dreaming, which has fallen into chaos in his absence. Read More…
