2024 Fak’ugesi Festival Begins
The 2024 Fak'ugesi Festival has officially begun, marking South Africa’s leading digital innovation event. Running from today until Saturday, this edition promises to bring together Africa’s brightest talents across various digital disciplines, creating a platform for cutting-edge creativity and technological advancements.
Launched through a partnership between the Tshimologong Precinct and Wits School of Arts’ Digital Arts Department, Fak'ugesi is known for blending technology, art, and African culture. The festival emphasizes innovation deeply rooted in African cultural practices, as noted by Tshimologong Precinct CEO, Mark Harris, who highlighted the festival’s role in showcasing the best of the digital space.
Building on the success of last year's 10th edition, themed "Until Locked," Harris is optimistic about this year's lineup, aimed at digital content creators, gamers, animators, and brands eager to align with the latest in digital innovation.
Festival Director Eduardo Cachucho reinforced Fak'ugesi's purpose as a convergence point for African storytelling and innovation, stressing the importance of shared experiences in showcasing true African digital creativity.
This year’s festival impact is further amplified by a new partnership with Y, Gauteng’s leading youth radio station, which aims to drive the digital youth agenda through its strong digital presence. Haseena Cassim, Y’s managing director, emphasized the alignment between the station and Fak'ugesi, both focusing on real-time innovation and the role of digital in the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The Fak'ugesi Festival is set to shine a spotlight on the future of African creativity and technology over the coming days, making it a key event for those at the intersection of culture and digital innovation.
