35 Primary Schools to Conduct Ballots in Phase 2A Registration
Parents enrolling their children in 35 primary schools will face a ballot during the second phase of the Primary 1 registration exercise in 2024. The most oversubscribed school is Gongshang Primary School in Tampines, with 196 applicants competing for 84 spots. This is followed by Princess Elizabeth Primary School in Bukit Batok with 45 vacancies for 142 applicants, and Shuqun Primary School in Jurong West with 49 vacancies for 115 applicants.
These three schools will conduct balloting for children who are Singapore citizens residing within 1km of their premises.
Phase 2A Registration
Phase 2A of the Primary 1 registration exercise took place from 9 am on July 11 to 4:30 pm on July 12. This phase is designated for children with a parent or sibling who is a former pupil, those with a parent who is a member of the school advisory or management committee, or a staff member, and children from MOE kindergartens under the primary school of their choice.
In 2023, 27 primary schools underwent balloting at this stage. The number has increased this year, highlighting the competition for places in certain schools.
There are 181 primary schools in Singapore, with 180 open for registration in 2024. Kranji Primary School will not admit Primary 1 pupils from 2024 to 2026 due to its relocation to Tengah.
The Ministry of Education stated on its website on July 17 that approximately 78.9% of schools will not require balloting and have sufficient vacancies to admit all Phase 2A registrants. The results of the registration will be announced on July 19.
