5 Exercises to Reduce Leg Swelling That You Can Do at Home

Leg swelling, also known as edema, can be a common problem for many people. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor circulation, salt retention, and certain medical conditions. While there are many treatments available for leg swelling, there are also some exercises that you can do at home to help reduce swelling and improve circulation. Here are 5 exercises that you can try:

1. Ankle Circles

- Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you.

- Lift one foot off the ground and draw circles with your ankle, starting from small circles and gradually increasing in size.

- Repeat for 5-10 minutes, then switch to the other foot.

2. Toe Wiggles

- Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you.

- Wiggle your toes back and forth, then spread them apart as far as you can.

- Repeat for 5-10 minutes.

3. Leg Raises

- Lie on your back with your legs straight up towards the ceiling.

- Slowly lift one leg up towards the ceiling, keeping it straight, then lower it back down.

- Repeat for 5-10 minutes, then switch to the other leg.

4. Calf Raises

- Stand on the edge of a stair or step with your heels hanging off the edge.

- Slowly raise up onto your tiptoes, then lower back down.

- Repeat for 5-10 minutes.

5. Seated Leg Stretch

- Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you.

- Slowly lift one leg out to the side, keeping it straight, then lower it back down.

- Repeat for 5-10 minutes, then switch to the other leg.

These 5 exercises can help reduce leg swelling and improve circulation. Remember to always talk to your doctor before starting any new exercise program, and to stay hydrated and avoid salty foods to help reduce leg swelling.
