8 new Whatsapp features that will change the way you use the app
Meta-owned WhatsApp, the globally renowned instant messaging platform, has recently introduced a plethora of exciting enhancements to its service. These new features encompass improved functionality and bolstered privacy, enabling users to connect and communicate with their loved ones in novel and enhanced ways.
Below, we highlight eight noteworthy features that have been introduced within the past year, some as recent as two days ago. While these features are or will soon be available worldwide.
1. SIMULTANEOUSLY USE ONE ACCOUNT ON UP TO FOUR PHONES
Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that WhatsApp users can now utilize their account on up to four mobile devices simultaneously. Previously, this multi-device functionality was limited to browsers, computers, or tablets. This new feature is particularly beneficial for individuals who utilize separate phones for home, work, or business and seek to link them all through a single account.
2. PASSWORD-PROTECTED CHATS
WhatsApp now offers password protection for chats, ensuring complete privacy. Users can store these protected chats in a dedicated folder, separate from the rest of their conversations. Notifications from password-protected chats do not display any message content or the sender's details.
3. TRUECALLER INTEGRATION
Truecaller, the popular caller identification service, will soon be available on WhatsApp and other messaging apps. This integration aims to help users identify potential spam calls made over the internet. Currently in the beta phase, the feature is expected to be rolled out globally later this month. Given the rising prevalence of telemarketing and scam calls, especially in countries like India, this feature will prove invaluable.
4. ANIMATED EMOJIS
WhatsApp is developing a feature that allows users to send animated emojis, making messages more engaging and enjoyable. Collaborating with Lottie, a library for creating simple animations, WhatsApp aims to enhance the user experience. Animated emojis will be sent by default, offering a touch of liveliness to conversations.
5. SAVING DISAPPEARING MESSAGES
The new "keep in chat" feature enables users to save important messages that would otherwise disappear. However, if the recipient intends to save the message, the sender will be notified and given the option to veto the decision, thus retaining control over the message. Saved messages will be displayed in a separate list called "Kept Messages" within the chat info.
6. EXIT GROUP CHATS DISCREETLY
WhatsApp now offers a discreet exit option for group chats. When a member leaves a group, only the group admin is notified, while other members remain unaware of the departure. This feature allows users to quietly exit groups without drawing attention to themselves.
7. CONTROL ONLINE VISIBILITY
Users can now select which contacts can see their online status on WhatsApp. If desired, users can block specific contacts from seeing their "online" indicator, providing more control over their presence on the platform.
8. SCREENSHOT PREVENTION FOR "VIEW-ONCE" MESSAGES
WhatsApp's "view-once" messages allow senders to share texts, photos, or videos that are automatically deleted after being viewed. In this privacy update, receivers are unable to take screenshots of the view-once content, enhancing the ephemeral nature of these messages.
