A date with the Congo at the Museum of Fine Arts
The exhibition Art and reparation: an appointment with the Congo was inaugurated in the facilities of the Museum of Fine Arts (MBA), in Caracas, with works of art originating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, donated in 1954 to the government of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez by King Leopold III, Monarch of Belgium.
The exhibition has several objects made of wood, ivory, musical instruments, hunting weapons, among other types of creations that highlight African culture, attacked at the time by the Belgian colonization, as well as American culture that, at the time , was stolen and even destroyed by the European obscurantism for several centuries.
The curator of the pieces, Franklin Perozo, stressed that the exhibition responds to a historical responsibility to vindicate African culture.
