Allergenic ragweed pollen concentration remains above the limit values
The concentration of allergenic ragweed pollen in the city remains significantly above the limit values, according to data from the Allergen Pollen Monitoring of the Environmental Protection Agency. The high levels are expected to persist until the end of September when a gradual decline may occur as ragweed enters the final phase of its flowering period.
Mirjana Mitrović, head of the allergenic pollen monitoring group, noted that ragweed is currently at the peak of its flowering season, causing severe issues for individuals allergic to it due to its highly potent allergenic properties. Last week, the pollen levels exceeded the limit by more than ten times, leading to symptoms such as watery eyes, itchy nose and ears, and even breathing difficulties among many residents.
On Sunday alone, the concentration reached 375 pollen grains per cubic meter of air, far exceeding safe levels. Mitrović indicated that a decrease in flowering is unlikely before the end of September, and urged those affected by allergies to continue with their prescribed therapies as high pollen levels are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
In addition to ragweed, the current allergenic pollen measurements also show the presence of pollen from wormwood, hemp, sedge, buckthorn, and nettle.
