Android update will save you a LOT of time when choosing which Wi-Fi network to join

There’s nothing worse than connecting to a Wi-Fi network, only to find that its’s painfully slow.
But the days of having to join a network to find out the Wi-Fi speed could soon be a thing of the past, thanks to the latest Android update.
Google has announced that Android 8.1 can now display the speed of nearby Wi-Fi networks before you decide whether to connect.
A tweet announcing the update said: “Public Wi-Fi can be spotty. For the first time, #AndroidOreo 8.1 lets you take out the guesswork & see the speed of networks before you hit connect.”
In the WiFi settings menu, different labels will now appear on nearby Wi-Fi networks - Very Fast, Fast, OK or Slow.
According to Google, the difference between Fast and Very Fast is that users can stream ‘very high-quality videos’ on Very Fast networks, and ‘most videos’ on Fast networks.
OK level networks will be suitable for web browsing, social media, and Spotify streaming.
There is a caveat - private Wi-Fi networks that need a password to join won’t display speed data.
