Angolan engineers lead SADC space program
Angola is leading, from Luanda, the initiative of the shared satellite system in the SADC region. The management office is at the heart of Funda.
The National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) is leading the space program for the SADC area, namely the Shared Satellite System Initiative, which involves having a common strategy for the region and launching and managing satellite joint. In our region, only South Africa has a structured program, but it is the Angolans who take the lead in this process.
It was within the scope of the creation of the GGPEN that Angola created an important pillar of knowledge in the space area, which, despite the annoyance of Angosat-1, continued to develop and grow. Today the country has 5 doctorates, 22 masters and 33 licensed engineers in the most diverse aspects of space engineering. At this point, three more are studying for a doctorate in France and an engineer who completed his training in Russia and is going to return to the country.
The competence of Angolan engineers is recognized internationally, and in 2020 and 2021 Angola won the Top category in Africa for engineers under 30 years old. The recognition of a class of young people trained, mostly in engineering in our country, but who will later complement their training in the space area abroad - Japan, the United States, France and Russia are some of the countries - for a year. The structuring of training goes through a period of six months at the academy and then 7 months at companies in the sector, which means that when they return they are there to guarantee a high professional level in the performance of their duties.
