Appeals by 3 Malaysians on death row in Singapore postponed
The hearing of the appeals by three Malaysians on death row in Singapore for drug trafficking has been postponed to the end of March.
The hearing was initially scheduled for today.
Datchinamurthy Kataiah, Pannir Selvam Pranthaman and Saminathan Selvaraju are among the 12 who will have their appeals heard.
Pannir’s sister, Angelia, 29, told FMT the judges want the prisons department and the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to explain how private correspondence between the trio and their lawyers ended up being forwarded to the AGC.
“The judges also want to know who at the AGC saw the letters, when they were forwarded, and so on,” she said.
According to Angelia, the judges said none of this evidence was provided during the earlier hearings involving the trio.
Datchinamurthy, Pannir and Saminathan are appealing their conviction on grounds that their private correspondence with their counsel had on multiple occasions been copied and forwarded to the AGC without their knowledge or consent. Read More…
