Canyoning is perhaps one of the lesser-known extreme sport pursuits, but no less as thrilling. It's all about navigating some of the world's most spectacular canyons by walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling (rappelling), and swimming. It's tough, gets very wet, and presents unique challenges. But for adrenaline junkies, it's one of the most thrilling outdoor adventure sports out there. Wanaka, New Zealand
Wanaka on New Zealand's South Island offers up some incredible canyoning opportunities. It's the gateway to the Southern Alps' Mount Aspiring National Park, a wilderness of glaciers, beech forests, alpine lakes, and tumbling waterfalls.
