President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has signed a decree approving the "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028." This strategic initiative aims to position Azerbaijan as a competitive player in the global AI landscape while fostering innovation and development within the country.
The strategy outlines four key objectives:
i. Enhancing Economic Competitiveness: The strategy aims to leverage AI technologies to boost the overall competitiveness of Azerbaijan's economy, ensuring that the nation can thrive in an increasingly digital and automated world.
ii. Creating Favorable Conditions for AI Implementation: The government plans to establish an environment conducive to the development and integration of AI technologies across various sectors, facilitating innovation and collaboration.
iii. Training a Qualified Workforce: Recognizing the importance of human capital in the AI industry, the strategy emphasizes the need for training and education programs to develop a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of the evolving job market.
iv. Promoting AI Benefits to Society: The strategy seeks to raise awareness about the advantages of AI among all segments of society, ensuring that the benefits of technological advancements are accessible and understood by the general public.
The overarching goal of this decree is to accelerate the development of AI in Azerbaijan, encourage scientific research, improve AI-related technologies and management systems, enhance infrastructure, and expand the pool of qualified professionals in the field.
To address information security concerns, the State Service for Special Communication and Information Security of Azerbaijan will conduct an analysis of potential risks associated with AI implementation within state bodies. This proactive approach aims to ensure the security of AI-related information and safeguard sensitive data.
The monitoring and evaluation of the strategy's implementation will be overseen by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications (CAERC), operating under the directives of the Cabinet of Ministers. This oversight will help ensure that the objectives of the AI strategy are met and that progress is tracked effectively.
As Azerbaijan embarks on this ambitious AI strategy, the nation aims to harness the transformative power of artificial intelligence to drive economic growth, enhance public services, and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
