Bangladesh women's team open T20 series with dominant win against Sri Lanka
Bangladesh women's 'A' team started their five-match T20 series against Sri Lanka 'A' with a commanding seven-wicket victory at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo on August 18. Despite a strong opening partnership by Sri Lanka's Kaushini Nuthyangana and Netmi Purna, who put together 70 runs for the first wicket, Bangladesh's bowlers managed to restrict the run rate and keep the pressure on the hosts.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has included several national team players in this 'A' team series, keeping in mind the upcoming T20 World Cup. This strategy paid off as Bangladesh, who had already won the 50-over series, continued their momentum with a convincing win in the first T20 match.
Shamima Sultana, returning to the team after a long absence due to illness, played a crucial role in the chase. She scored 48 runs off 44 balls, including five boundaries and the only six of the match. Shamima's opening stand with Sathi Rani (20 off 22 balls) added 40 runs, and her subsequent 56-run partnership with Sobhana Mostary (28 off 31 balls) effectively sealed the game for Bangladesh.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Rabeya Khan won the toss and elected to field. Sri Lanka's openers started cautiously but were unable to accelerate in the latter stages of the innings. As they attempted to increase the scoring rate, wickets tumbled rapidly. Sri Lanka collapsed from a solid 72/0 to 88/6, losing six wickets for just 16 runs, and eventually ended their innings at 112/7.
Fahima Khatun was the standout performer with the ball for Bangladesh, taking 3 wickets for 12 runs. Rabeya Khan, Jahanara Alam, Ritu Moni, and Sultana each contributed with a wicket as well, ensuring a comprehensive victory for their team.
