Bangladeshi filmmaker makes German film debut with 'Killer'
Bangladeshi filmmaker Abdullah Al Fahim has made a groundbreaking debut in the German film industry with his film "Killer," marking a significant shift in his career. Despite facing numerous rejections and lack of support in Bangladesh, Fahim's fortunes changed after he moved to Italy a year and a half ago to study filmmaking.
"Killer," Fahim's German-language film, which will also be available in English, features a diverse cast from 29 countries, including prominent German actors Daniel Muller and David Neumann, and Italian actress Angelina Lewis. The film revolves around seven friends living in Berlin, who secretly harbor murderous intentions toward each other. The plot thickens when one friend dies unexpectedly, leading to a tense investigation by both the police and the remaining friends to uncover the truth behind the death.
Fahim's journey began at the University of Milan, where he shared his filmmaking aspirations with a group of students from around the world. Encouraged by their support, Fahim connected with German producer Mr. Bell, who agreed to finance "Killer" after hearing the plot.
After finalizing the story, Fahim met with Daniel Muller and David Neumann, who fit the characters perfectly. They suggested making the film in German, leading Fahim to learn the language and work with a team member to translate the script. The film has since been completed and is set to be submitted to international film festivals, including Cannes, with plans for a theatrical release.
Fahim also expressed his desire to bring his filmmaking talents back to Bangladesh if given the opportunity.
